Books we love

Good to Great by Jim Collins
It woke us up in our 10th year of business (fall 2007). It's all about the value of making sure we have the right people on the team doing the right (great) things. We loved the overall message and made it a discussion (and action) manual for a couple of months (still using some of the concepts now). Like some books that examine great companies during a specific period, it also has its share that probably wouldn't be included today. Even so, the fundamental messages were a powerful reminder to us on how we can become great and then go even further.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
If we all practiced the 7 habits, it'd be heaven on Earth. We're trying, and highly recommend them to others.

Lucky or Smart? by Bo Peabody
Just like Peabody, we believe real success comes from choosing to be part of something fundamentally innovative, morally compelling and philosophically positive. Everyone reads this when they start at Give More Media (along with 212° the extra degree® and a few others).

Ogilvy on Advertising by David Ogilvy
So much of what we do is about presenting ideas that inspire people to act. Advertising legend Ogilvy was one of the best in the field. He would have loved the web.

Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
The classic in dealing with adversity (beyond most of our understanding). From the back cover: it's about "a conviction that the primary human drive is not pleasure but the pursuit of what we find meaningful."

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
You want friends, don't you? If you work with people, this is the classic. If you work with only machines or animals, read it anyway (then maybe you'll have some friends).
